The City of College Station's Electric Utility Department

Is offering immediate employment opportunities for the following positions:

Journeyman Line Technician

Apprentice Line Technician


The Journeyman Line Technician performs skilled wok in the construction, maintenance, and repairs of the electrical overhead and underground distribution and transmission system. Work with energized line voltage up to 138 kV on a daily basis. Job duties include operating inspecting, and maintaining aerial devices, digger/derricks, excavation equipment, and other electric line related equipment; climbing poles with climbing hoods and belt; troubleshooting underground and overhead distribution systems. Setting transformers and pulling underground primary and secondary conductors; assisting foreman in training Apprentice Line Technicians; and completing reports, documentation, and mapping information.

Successful candidates must have High School diploma or GED equivalent, four (4) or more years of progressive electric utility line experience, have or must be able to obtain a Texas Class "A" CDL within three months of hire date, must live within thirty (30) minute response radius from place of work; available for on-call and emergency response; and available to work weekends and evenings. Prefer candidates to have basic computer skills.

The Apprentice Line Technician is an entry level position that trains to become a Journeymen Line Technician. An incumbent in the Apprentice Line Technician position performs a variety of light and heavy manual tasks that assists Journeyman Line Technicians in the construction, maintenance, and repairs of the electrical overhead and underground distribution and transmission system. The Apprentice Line Technician must learn how to work with energized line voltages up to 15kV on a daily basis. Typical Job duties include learning to operate, inspect, and maintain aerial devices, digger/derricks, excavation equipment and other electric line related equipment; digging poles and anchor holes. Loading and unloading, removing and installing, and transporting framing poles, setting transformers and pulling underground primary and secondary conductors.

Successful candidates must have High School diploma or GED equivalent, four (4) or more years of progressive electric utility line experience, have or must be able to obtain a Texas Class "A" CDL within three months of hire date, must live within thirty (30) minute response radius from place of work; available for on-call and emergency response; and available to work weekends and evenings. Prefer candidates to have at least Six (6) months to one year of experience performing general labor duties.
